Why FIFO Boilermaker resumes get ignored

Most people aren’t rejected because they’re unqualified — they’re rejected because the resume isn’t structured for screening. This example shows what scan-friendly looks like.

Tickets/licences buried or unclear.
Bullets are long task lists (not recruiter-scan friendly).
No clear FIFO readiness / safety signals.
Generic wording that doesn’t match the role.

What recruiters scan first

Trade qualification and welding/fabrication experience.
Work type: maintenance, shutdowns, structural repairs, fabrication or fixed plant where true.
Safety: permits, isolations, hot work, JHAs, SWMS and housekeeping if experienced.
Materials, tools and processes: only list what you have genuinely used.

Suggested structure

Headline: FIFO Boilermaker | Fabrication | Maintenance | Shutdown Support.

Summary: focus on trade experience, safety, reliability and practical capability.

Key Skills: welding, fabrication, repairs, structural work, shutdown support and maintenance where true.

Tickets & Licences: trade qualification, high risk tickets, working at heights or confined space if held.

Burying qualifications and tickets too low on the resume.

FAQs

Should I list welding processes?

Yes, but only list the processes you have genuinely used and can speak about confidently.

Is workshop fabrication experience useful for FIFO boilermaker roles?

Yes. Workshop experience can transfer well if you present fabrication, repairs, safety, quality and teamwork clearly.
