Why FIFO Mechanic resumes get ignored

Most people aren’t rejected because they’re unqualified — they’re rejected because the resume isn’t structured for screening. This example shows what scan-friendly looks like.

Tickets/licences buried or unclear.
Bullets are long task lists (not recruiter-scan friendly).
No clear FIFO readiness / safety signals.
Generic wording that doesn’t match the role.

What recruiters scan first

Trade qualification and licences: list clearly near the top.
Maintenance experience: servicing, diagnostics, repairs, breakdowns and inspections.
Safety: isolation procedures, permits, JHAs, housekeeping and hazard reporting where experienced.
Equipment exposure: only list vehicles, machinery or systems you have actually worked on.

Suggested structure

Headline: FIFO Mechanic | Maintenance | Diagnostics | Breakdown Support.

Summary: focus on trade skills, safety, diagnostics and reliability.

Key Skills: servicing, fault finding, repairs, inspections, hydraulics, pneumatics or fleet maintenance where true.

Tickets & Licences: trade qualification, driver's licence and site tickets if held.

Common mistakes

Listing equipment you have not worked on.
Not putting qualifications and licences near the top.
Writing only general duties without showing diagnostics or safety.
Overclaiming mine-site experience if your background is workshop-based.

FAQs

Should I list specific equipment?

Yes, but only if you have genuinely worked on it. Accuracy matters more than sounding impressive.

Can workshop experience help with FIFO mechanic roles?

Yes. Workshop experience can be valuable if you present servicing, repairs, diagnostics, safety and reliability clearly.
